Painting with light

A Californian running LostAmerica.com sparked my interest in light painting photography. His subjects and locations are undeniably more captivating, but the concept is simple: painting with light, in this case, using a powerful flashlight and colored theater gels.

Since nighttime access to junkyards or other captivating locations is limited, I rely on Google Maps’ Street View for inspiration. My usual stomping grounds are about an hour and forty minutes west of Chicago, near Utica, Illinois. Barns and a few abandoned structures have become my illuminated canvases so far, and there’s definitely more to come!
